Sonic The Hedgehog Movie NEW PLOT

Updated: May 5, 2019

Let me start by saying that Sonic's design is the least of the movie's problems. Hell, if I could see any semblance of PLOT I wouldn't care if the star of this film was Sonic's blue furry ass. From what we can see in the trailer, there is a severe and inherent lack of tension. Why is Sonic even there? Moreso, why should I give a damn? But at least the trailer explains it. Let's read what's likely written in the script, shall we?

Pick-up Truck Driver Who Is Actually A Cop says:

"Okay Pal I want answers."

Blue Raccoon Mutant says:

"Basically, I'm here to save your planet."

Blue Raccoon Mutant stares silently with an uncharacteristically mutant expression.

I mean, can you really be ANY more cliche? Like, really?

In order for this movie to have a single shot in space at being halfway decent, this needs to address the very presence of Sonic in our world. Sonic's presence should obviously be a plot point, but moreso, it should add to the source of tension. Right now, he's just kind of... there. If the threat is anything other than Dr. Eggman, you've already lost. And judging by the plot it looks like Dr. Eggman won't even really exist until he tries and fails to catch Sonic. Also, Dr. Eggman looks to be originally from our world. So I must ask again. Why is he here? A natural phenomenon? A premonition from the future? Lame.

This movie desperately needs a better reason for Sonic to be there. This needs a better reason for Sonic to run. I want to feel like Sonic is outrunning something. And not just anything. Something big. I want Dr. Eggman to be this imposing threat that's chasing Sonic through the multiverse in an effort to obtain the final chaos emerald. There, I said it. I was going to build up more to the plot that I had painstakingly prepared, but screw it. Like Sonic (should), I have very little patience.

First Major Plot Device:

Dr. Eggman has found all the chaos emeralds, and with the help of Shadow (a being of his creation to try to imitate Sonic), he is able to wield them to begin his conquest of neighboring universes. He wants to use them to make life "better" for all living creatures, which to him means a cold, industrial, robotic utopia, free of any living organisms. He wants to make every living creature into a machine.

That's where the Chaos Emeralds come into play.

Sonic escapes with one of the chaos emeralds before Eggman can begin his conquest. Using the emerald Sonic manages to run fast enough to escape his world with it by tearing a hole in the fabric of space and time. Sonic runs fast enough to traverse the multiverse, where Dr. Eggman will never get his hands on the emerald. However, Dr. Eggman sends Shadow after Sonic, and with the help of the remaining emeralds, follows slowly behind in his newest death machine. As Dr. Eggman closes in on Sonic, he leaves every world ruined and desolate in his wake.

Meanwhile, Sonic is struggling to maintain his speed indefinitely. He inevitably comes to grips with the fact that he needs to rest. While he may have had time to stop in a few of the other worlds, which can be explored further through exposition, when he gets to our world he is unable to maintain the same level of speed and essentially crashes. Sonic, suddenly in a position of not being fast enough to outrun what is coming, faces an existential crisis.

Other Considerations:

Sonic has iconic traits that I think everyone will recognize. His most notable trait is that he's very impatient.

Sonic should be nearly oblivious to the world around him in the beginning. He should be uncaring, unfeeling, and eager to get to the point of every interaction. He should be accustomed to being able to handle every problem by outrunning it our outmaneuvering it and getting his way. The challenges Sonic faces when he arrives in our world will make him face these traits and realize that he can't do everything alone--and moreover that running is not always the answer. Sonic should come to realize that he needs to slow down in order to speed up this time.

This should be artistic. Have fun with it. Make jokes that are character-oriented, not about a kid in a bag... that's stupid, who cares, please God No. Just try and ask yourselves, what would Sonic say?

Closing:

Hopefully this post will get some traction. I would love to see these changes make it into the final version. If you've read till this point please share this everywhere you can. Let's get this out there.

Also, if you have any questions please feel free to post in the forums. This is a growing site and a growing community and I would love to welcome you to it. Thanks.
